What grass-fed products do you offer?
Our landscape is well suited to the production of grass-fed livestock. At our farm we rotationally graze beef cattle and sheep on pasture and occasionally have a few pigs around too.

Lamb is available in retail cuts both at the Oneota Community Co-op in Decorah and directly from our farm on Friday nights during pizza season (May – October). We also sell whole and half lamb bundles. Our lambs are primarily grass fed but in the winter we treat them to a few organic oats. We raise mostly hair sheep – dorper and katahdin – because they are great grazers and we enjoy the milder flavor profile of the meat.

Beef will be available for the first time from our farm in 2018. Our steers predominantly have Red Devon genetics and spend their entire life on pasture, receiving all of their nutrition from the sweet grasses of our pastures. In the winter they are fed hay and baleage. Beef is sold in wholes, halves, quarters and we also sell retail cuts from our freezer on pizza nights.

We raise a few pigs for pizza and typically market a few as wholes and halves. Our pigs live their lives entirely outside and are fed organic grain, mineral and the occasional bucket of organic milk from Tom’s parents’ dairy up the hill.

About Luna Valley Farm
Since buying our farm in 2012 we have been growing organic crops, grazing sheep and cattle on pasture, powering our farm and home with the sun, and growing deep roots in our community. We love bringing people together over good food, especially when we can share ingredients we’ve grown here at Luna Valley Farm.

We do our best to carefully think through our farming choices to ensure that we are considering the health of the soil, waterways and ecosystems for our neighbors and for generations to come.

One of our favorite things to do is to share our farm with the community on Friday nights from May through October when we are open for wood-fired pizza made with ingredients that we’ve lovingly grown or sourced from other local farms.
